Different projects must be approached by different management philosophies. We present a conceptual classification of projects based on their technological uncertainty, specifically the novelty and complexity of the technology involved.
All projects are classified into four types: low-tech, medium-tech, high-tech, and super-high-tech, and then proceed to describe the main differences between them. Particular attention is paid to the ‘higher’ types of technology: high-tech and super-high-tech projects, and the attitudes and tools needed to manage them. Such projects, if well executed and successful, can help improve competitive advantage and business position.
